Pyor Vo working the bar for the fall

For the first time in over five years, Lowell defeated perennial SF section wrestling champion, Washinton 33-24 and advances to 3-0 in section competition.

We have looked forward to our truest section test: facing the teams who have historically defeated us and sat atop the SF section. We had our first test last week against Balboa, who we defeated. Today, we faced Washington who has “owned” the AAA for at least five years.

In a meet beset by numerous forfeits due to wrestler injuries, sickness, etc. on both sides, the forfeits balanced each other out to make this a situation of deciding the victor where it matters…on the field of battle. To this end, Lowell took four out of six matches winning them all by pin.

Getting pins for Lowell were:

120 lbs Lorenzo Pesino (senior) – won by fall
126 lbs Pryor Vo (junior) – won by fall
170 lbs Rubin Girling (junior) – won by fall
182 lbs Maxim Dzul (sophomore) – won by fall

Next up for Lowell is the very tough Puma Classic tournament in Santa Rosa this Saturday. There we will be encountering several state-ranked teams…including the #2 in state team.

Our next section dual meet will be at Galileo on Jan. 30 where we hope to improve to 4-0.
