Lowell Girls Bring It

Lowell Girls sporting the bling and team trophy

On Saturday, Dec. 7 the Lowell Girls Wrestling team competed at the Peninsula Invitational at Half Moon Bay HS. Twenty-four teams from the Central Coast, North Coast, and Sac-Joaquin CIF sections competed in this early season tournament.

Lowell put on an impressive performance finishing in second place well ahead of last season’s Central Coast Section champions.

This fantastic finish was anchored by 1st place finishes by: Joanna Li (junior/101) and team captain, Daniela Romo (senior/137lbs). Both Joanna and Daniela pinned all their opponents with Daniela earning Tournament MVP honors.

But Lowell wasn’t done yet. We had ten total medalists:

101 – Joanna Li (Jr.) – 1st pl
101 – Kira Fukuda (soph) – 6th pl
106 – Annie Ye (soph) – 4th pl
111 – Isabella Hee (Jr.) – 4th pl
121 – Viviana Ojeda (Jr.) – 4th pl
131 – Hannaiz Elias (soph) – 4th pl
137 – Daniela Romo (Sr.) – 1st pl & tournament MVP
160 – Cora Cost (frosh) – 3rd pl
160 – Airah Franco (Sr.) – 4th pl
189 – Philomena Imoka (soph) – 2nd pl

Daniela Romo – 2019 HMB Tournament Champion & MVP at 137lbs

If they didn’t know before, the Central Coast Section now knows Lowell is a force to be reckoned with as we strive towards our goal of winning the Central Coast Championships this year.

Next up for the girls will be the Roger Briones Invitational at San Leandro HS next Saturday, Dec. 14.

The boys will be competing at the Bay Area 57 tournament as Castro Valley HS the same day.
