STAPH INFECTION ALERT!!

IF ANY WRESTLER NOTICES ANY UNUSUAL PIMPLE LIKE BUMPS ANYWHERE ON YOUR BODY, PLEASE ALERT A COACH IMMEDIATELY!!

One of our wrestlers was today diagnosed as having a staphylococcus (aka staph) infection on his arm. Staph is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection. Staph can be lethal if left untreated. Also there are strains of staph which are resistant to many antibiotics.

The wrestler in question may or may not have become infected in practice, but the 4-10 day incubation period of staph makes it possible that he did. In addition, others have had physical contact with him on the mats. He did have the 1-2 bumps of the initial onset of the infection covered with a band-aid…but he could have spread the infection before he noticed the bumps and covered them.

Again, if any wrestler notices any abnormal pimple like bumps on their body, the coaches need to know about it immediately. We are not doctors, but I will tell you if you have more than one abnormal (meaning not teen acne) bump that itches or has pus…you need to be evaluated by a physician as soon as possible.

We will be discussing this at length tomorrow (Thursday) at practice.
